Watching this video and others like it makes me feel like I’m being transported into another world. But if you look at the big picture, it really wasn’t that long ago. It is staggering to think that rock n roll really hasn’t been around for very long. I think about how much technology has advanced in the last 50 years and also how much the roots of rock have held up and stood the test of time…. I wonder what it will be like in 40 or 50 years.

U2′s performance in Live Aid was the event that catapulted them into world stardom. Bono’s famed leap into the audience made the headlines, while the turmoil that was created by this unexpected stunt almost broke the band apart. Either way, it was a magical moment of artist-audience connection in one of the greatest live shows the world has ever witnessed. (Look out for Lou Reed, Rolling Stones shoutouts!)
