In April 2008, Bill Simmons ran it as “The Springsteen Link of the Week” in his Sports Guy column on ESPN.com, quoting a reader named Joe from State College, Pa.: “This rendition of ‘Prove It All Night’ might be one of the greatest single concert performances ever.” (the column, via the Wayback Machine)
In September 2009, for Bruce’s 60th birthday, Simmons tweeted “Prove It All Night” from 1978: “For concerts, this was the Boss’ ’99 Pedro season.”
That’s where I found it. When I first posted it here, I wrote: “This was the first spark that inspired this blog. @sportsguy33 posted it a couple years ago and it made me wonder what else I was missing.” This clip went up on December 29, 2009, and greatmusicblog.com grew from there: one great performance at a time, each picked by someone who couldn’t stop thinking about it.
In January 2011, Simmons found the blog: “Really good idea for a blog… The ’78 Stones + Brown/Pavarotti clips were great finds.”
Fifteen years later, the blog is back, and it starts where it always did. Hit play.
